Y-bearing units - general 
 
 
The standard SKF ball bearing units are referred to as Y-bearing units. These units comprise

a Y-bearing (insert bearing) which is a single row deep groove ball bearing with convex sphered outside diameter (fig)
a Y-bearing housing, which has a correspondingly sphered but concave bore (fig).

Y-bearing units are ready-to-mount, greased and sealed units which enable initial errors of alignment to be compensated for. They are available as

Y-bearing plummer block units (fig)
Y-bearing flanged units (fig)
Y-bearing take-up units (fig).

The housings of the units are produced in a variety of designs and different materials

composite material referred to as Y-TECH
grey cast iron
sheet steel.

The Y-bearings are single row deep groove ball bearings which are sealed at both sides and have an inner ring which is extended at one or both sides. Because of the special way in which they are locked on to the shaft, viz. by

grub screw locking (fig 1)
eccentric locking collar (fig 2)
adapter sleeve (fig 3)
SKF ConCentra locking (fig)
